Eskom Announces Nine-Hour Power Outages Across Cape Town From February 17 to 19 Due to Planned Maintenance Work

Eskom has recently confirmed that planned maintenance will cause power interruptions in parts of Cape Town.

The maintenance work is set to take place from Monday, February 17, to Wednesday, February 19, with the power outages scheduled daily from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

This maintenance is part of Eskom’s ongoing efforts to service and maintain the electrical infrastructure, ensuring the safety, reliability, and efficiency of power supply in the region.

Affected Areas in Cape Town

Several areas in Cape Town will experience power outages during this period.

The suburbs of Table View, Rivergate Business Park, Parklands, and nearby areas will be particularly affected.

Eskom had also carried out similar maintenance in these areas earlier this month, including Table View, Parklands, and Milnerton.

While these outages may be inconvenient, they are essential for the proper functioning of the power network, and Eskom urges residents and businesses to plan accordingly.

City of Cape Town Water Supply Interruptions

In addition to the power outages, the City of Cape Town’s Water and Sanitation Directorate has also announced planned maintenance work that will disrupt water supply in certain areas.

On Tuesday, February 18, water will be temporarily shut off in Bethal Street and Avignon Security Estate in Hout Bay from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Then, on Thursday, February 20, the water supply will be interrupted along Govan Mbeki Drive between Wetton Circle and Hanover Park Avenue.

This includes areas near Lansdowne Corner Shopping Mall, the Astron Service Station, and Fynn Close.

Water will be shut off from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM as the newly-installed pipeline is connected to the existing infrastructure.

How to Prepare for Power and Water Interruptions

With both power and water disruptions scheduled for the coming days, it’s important for residents and businesses to prepare in advance.

For power outages, consider charging electronic devices beforehand, and make sure you have enough candles, batteries, or backup power sources on hand.

For water disruptions, it’s a good idea to store some water for drinking, cooking, and other essential needs during the outage.
