The Cape Town police arrested two men for their alleged involvement in an armed robbery at the post office at City Centre shopping centre in Eerste River on Tuesday, 3 May.

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi said two 21-year-old men were arrested after the Eerste River business robbery.

According to the spokesperson, the suspects were nabbed moments after the incident and an undisclosed amount of cash was found in their possession.

The duo is expected to appear before the Blue Downs Magistrate’s Court on charges of business robbery, attack on the police and attempted murder.

As previously reported, members of the Kleinvlei Crime Prevention Unit received a complaint about the robbery at 12:45 on Tuesday.

The robbers, who were unknown at the time, entered the Eerste River Post Office and demanded cash.

“When the police officers arrived at the scene, a shootout between the suspects and the police followed,” said Swartbooi.

Three men and a woman were struck by bullets in the shootout between the alleged robbers and officers. A 76-year-old man and a 30-year-old police constable were among the wounded.

The four victims were transported to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.

The suspects initially fled the scene but were arrested.

The Kleinvlei police station opened cases of attempted murder, attack on the police and business robbery.
