Dolly dazzler gives Kaizer Chiefs hope of a CAF berth – WATCH

‘Hit Them Hard’ read a hand-painted sign on a bare-chested Kaizer Chiefs supporter’s chest in the stands at FNB Stadium.

And that’s exactly what Keagan Dolly did in the 77th minute of Amakhosi’s DStv Premiership match against Marumo Gallants this week.

His second half cracker from long range was enough to give the Soweto giants all three much-needed points against their plucky visitors.

The winner may have taken a very kind deflection off Dolly’s partner in crime Khama Billiat, but it was a slice of luck Kaizer Chiefs badly needed to snap a barren recent run without a win.

Dolly had received an innocuous inside ball from Njabulo Blom and from fully 25 metres out there seemed little danger for Marumo Gallants.

But Dolly never needs a second invitation to have a go and took matters into his own hands to strike a sweet winner for what was the game’s only goal.

While Mamelodi Sundowns have long-since wrapped up a fifth consecutive league title, the victory kept Kaizer Chiefs in the hunt for second place and its prize money of R7.5 million.

In addition, the DStv Premiership runners-up will qualify for the 2022/23 CAF Champions League (along with Mamelodi Sundowns).

The third placed finisher will book a spot in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup (along with Marumo Gallants as their Nedbank Cup final opponents Mamelodi Sundowns have already secured a CAF Champions League slot).

Currently Royal AM occupy second place ahead of Cape Town City FC on goal difference, with Kaizer Chiefs fourth, three points behind with three rounds remaining.
