Rasta, the iconic artist, unveiled his image of gospel diva Deborah Fraser to the public a day after she was put to rest in a star-studded funeral party.

Rasta, actual name Lebani Sirenje, made the announcement on his social media account on Sunday, May 22. Tweeps weren’t sure if Rasta received the right message about who to paint.

In a post shared on Twitter, Rasta revealed two portraits he had created of Deborah Fraser.

According to EWN, the iconic singer died on 15 May in Soweto’s Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital following a short illness. On Saturday, the singer was laid to rest in a ceremony at The Station Hall in Durban

“RIP Deborah Fraser, your healing voice will always be missed”, Rasta tweeted of the two paintings.

But whilst one depicted the star singing into a microphone, the other, claim tweeps, strongly resembled another woman of God: Mother Theresa

@Xola_Mashasha: “I know Mother Theresa when I see one”

@ItisSamhere: “But he drew a nun!”

@reuben_gallas: “Isn’t this mother Theresa?”

RASTA HOPING TO BREAK A WORLD RECORD

Meanwhile, Rasta is likely to use his portrait of Deborah Fraser in an upcoming exhibition at the art gallery Museum Africa in Newtown, Johannesburg.

The Zimbabwean-born artist plans to showcase 300 portraits during his six-month exhibition, which begins on Friday 27 May 2022.

And the painter is hoping the epic exhibition makes it into the Guinness Book of World Records.

He told Tshisalive: “The number of my paintings should be in the Guinness World Records because 300 portraits are a lot, so I’m trying that”.
