Police have cautioned that supplying alcohol to consumers at an axe-throwing club could jeopardize the safety of workers and other participants.

The Hilt, a York-based event that bills itself as a “immersive Viking axe-throwing experience,” may now only serve alcohol to individuals who have completed their tournaments.

They are now urging councillors to alter the restrictions so that customers can drink while throwing axes.

The owners want the selling of pre-purchased drinks to be permitted, with a limit of two per customer but no alcohol.

Since they launched in September 2019, six months before the first national lockdown, they claim there hasn’t been a single mishap.
