Fatal Shooting of Community Patroller in KwaZulu-Natal
In a tragic incident, a 58-year-old community patroller lost his life in a hail of bullets at his residence in Zwelisha, KwaZulu-Natal, on a Saturday evening. According to Prem Balram, spokesperson for Reaction Unit SA (RUSA), the victim was preparing to conduct his patrol duties when a barrage of gunfire targeted his white Toyota Corolla.
Fatal Attack and Immediate Response
The fatal attack unfolded as the man was leaving his property, and his vehicle was repeatedly fired upon. RUSA Reaction Officers swiftly reacted to the situation, rushing to the scene. Upon arrival, they discovered the victim in his yard, covered by a blanket. He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and tragically succumbed to his injuries. The injured man had managed to exit his vehicle but collapsed in his yard, and the scene yielded the recovery of ten spent 9mm cartridges.

The shooting occurred around 22:34 on Saturday evening, but the motive behind the attack remains unclear as investigators work to establish the facts surrounding the incident.
Drive-By Shooting Targeting Taxi Boss
Earlier on the same Saturday, another violent incident unfolded when a taxi boss was shot and injured in a drive-by shooting in Southridge. This incident occurred at the intersection of Old Inanda Road and Jabu Ngcobo Road in Southridge.
Drive-By Shooting Details
During the drive-by shooting, the taxi boss and a passenger in the vehicle were both victims of the attack. A bullet-riddled white VW Polo arrived at a service station in the area at approximately 19:27, prompting the callout of RUSA members. They arrived at the scene and were informed that the driver and passenger had been shot. Prior to their arrival, the victims had been transported to the hospital in a minibus taxi. The scene also yielded the discovery of several spent rifle cartridges.
