Colorado judge orders closure of crime-plagued apartment complex in Aurora after gang-related violence escalates

In a dramatic turn of events, a notorious apartment complex in Aurora, Colorado, has been ordered to close after being overrun by criminal activity tied to the Venezuelan Tren de Aragua gang.

This decision follows months of alarming incidents, including violent crimes and kidnappings, which have left the community shaken.

Judge Declares Complex a Public Safety Threat

Judge Shawn Day issued an emergency closure order for the Edge of Lowry apartment complex, citing its status as “an imminent threat to public safety and welfare.”

The ruling came after city officials pursued criminal negligence charges against the property’s owners, Five Dallas Partners.

Authorities described the 60-unit complex as a hub of violent and property crimes, including the kidnapping and torture of two residents by suspected gang members.

Residents Forced to Relocate

The closure order means that residents of the complex must now move out.

City officials are working with Arapahoe County and community partners to provide relocation assistance.

However, the exact number of residents remains unclear, as occupancy levels in each unit vary from two to 12 people.

To manage the process, the city plans to hire an outside company to survey the complex and facilitate the relocation.

Legal Battle Intensifies

The property owners face criminal negligence charges for failing to address rampant crime at the complex.

Attorneys for Five Dallas Partners have denied allegations of stalling, claiming they are focused on protecting residents.

Despite their assurances, the owners have yet to file a petition to reconsider the closure or pay the required court fees to proceed with a jury trial.

A History of Criminal Activity

Troubles at the Edge of Lowry first gained public attention in August when doorbell footage revealed armed men threatening residents.

Tren de Aragua gang members reportedly seized vacant apartments, using them as hubs for drug trafficking, prostitution, and illegal rentals.

Residents shared harrowing accounts of violence, including a December incident where a couple was kidnapped
