The South African Weather Service (SAWS) issued a Yellow Level 2 warning for damaging waves in Cape Town – along with most of the province’s coastline – on Friday, 13 May.

CAPE TOWN WEATHER WARNING

According to the weather service, the Cape Town weather warning is effective between 12:00 on Friday and 23:59 on Saturday, 14 May.

The damaging waves are expected to lead to difficulty in navigation at sea for small and personal watercraft – kayaks, etc. This could lead to vessels taking on water and capsizing.

“Localised disruptions to beachfront activities are likely,” said the weather service.

As a precaution, small vessels are advised to seek shelter in harbour, bays or inlets.

WEEKEND FORECAST

On Saturday, Cape Town is expected to be cloudy for most of the day. The minimum temperature should be 13 °C, rising to a high of 18 °C in the afternoon.

No rain is predicted and the wind speed is expected to reach 19km/h from 14:00.

On Sunday, a low of 12 °C is expected, which could rise to 21 °C. The wind speed is also expected to reach 19km/h and no rain is predicted.
