Cape Town prepares for the exciting return of the Cycle Tour with thousands of cyclists expected to take on the streets this Sunday

Cape Town is preparing for another thrilling edition of the Cape Town Cycle Tour on Sunday, 9 March.

Thousands of cyclists will hit the city’s streets, making it one of the most anticipated sporting events of the year.

But this race is not just about the athletes—it’s also about the spirit of community, the excitement of the spectators, and the dedication of the people who make it all happen.

A Long-Standing Partnership for Hydration

One key player in this incredible event is Coca-Cola Peninsula Beverages (CCPB), the official hydration partner for the race.

With a partnership spanning nearly 25 years, CCPB is instrumental in keeping the cyclists refreshed and energized throughout the ride.

The company’s role goes beyond providing drinks; it’s a vital part of the event’s energy and rhythm.

Over 50,000kg of ice will be used to chill an impressive 100,000 litres of water, along with 30,000 litres each of Powerade and Coca-Cola, at 16 hydration stations along the route.

This massive effort ensures that participants stay hydrated as they tackle the challenging course.

A Tribute to Cape Town’s Spirit

Marc Odendaal, the Commercial Sports and Marketing Assets Lead for CCPB, shared his thoughts on what makes the Cycle Tour so special.

“This event is a true testament to the incredible spirit of Cape Town—from the cyclists who train for months to the supporters who create an electric atmosphere on race day,” he said.

“Being a company deeply invested in the region, we’re proud to support not only the athletes but also the communities that make these events possible.”

Commitment to Sustainability

Sustainability is a big focus for CCPB this year. The company is ensuring that all packaging at hydration stations is collected and recycled responsibly.

In partnership with the City of Cape Town and local organizations, the goal is to minimize the environmental impact while maximizing the support provided to the athletes.

An Unforgettable Day in the Mother City

Whether you’re cycling, cheering from the sidelines, or simply soaking in the excitement, Sunday’s race promises to be an unforgettable experience.

“It’s a day to celebrate endurance, camaraderie, and the heart of Cape Town,” Odendaal added.
