Former president Jacob Zuma and Department of Correctional Services are yet to file their heads of arguments in Supreme Court of Appeal

In the Supreme Court of Appeal, former president Jacob Zuma and the Department of Correctional Services have yet to file their heads of arguments.

Zuma and the department have till Wednesday at 3 p.m. to file their documents.

They are challenging a High Court ruling that Zuma’s release on medical parole was unconstitutional and unreasonable.

The Constitutional Court sentenced Zuma to 15 months in prison for contempt of court in June 2021, after he disobeyed the court’s earlier order to obey the State Capture Commission’s summons to appear before it.

Former Correctional Services Commissioner Arthur Fraser, however, freed him on medical parole in less than two months, against the Medical Parole Advisory Board’s advice.

Meanwhile, High Court Judge Elias Matojane said the matter needed the attention of the SCA to bring certainty to the interpretation of the Correctional Services Act and its regulations.

Respondents, who include the Helen Suzman Foundation, have until the 1st of July to file their opposing papers in the SCA
