Permanent Secretary Takes Helm of Humanitarian Ministry Amidst Edu’s Suspension Over Fund Mismanagement

President Bola Tinubu has instructed Olumuyiwa Enitan, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, to take charge of the ministry following the suspension of Betta Edu, the previous minister.

Edu faced public outrage due to authorizing a payment of N585 million into a private account.

Presidential Mandate Executed

Responding to the President’s directive, the former minister handed over the ministry’s responsibilities to the permanent secretary, who formally received the directive on Monday evening.

Official Transition and Confirmation

A representative from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation delivered the authorization letter to Enitan, confirming his assumption of duties at the humanitarian ministry.

An anonymous high-ranking official from the ministry affirmed this transition based on the President’s directive.

Confirmation of Assumed Duties

The official stressed the necessity for the permanent secretary to obtain formal authorization despite the media announcement, emphasizing the receipt of the directive on Monday night and subsequent compliance.

Presidential Orders and Assistance in Investigations

Ajuri Ngelale, the President’s Special Advisor on Media and Publicity, confirmed Tinubu’s orders for the suspended minister to hand over responsibilities to the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs.

Additionally, the sidelined minister was instructed to fully cooperate with investigative authorities.

Further Investigation Task Force

Furthermore, a group led by the Finance and Economy Coordinating Minister was assigned the responsibility to conduct an extensive examination of the financial structure and framework pertaining to the social investment initiatives within the ministry.
