Benue LG Council elections: PDP records landslide victory

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, recorded a landslide victory in the Local Government Council elections conducted in Benue State, North Central Nigeria.

Chairman of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission, BESIEC, Dr Joseph Loko, disclosed this while declaring the results of the Council polls at the Commission’s headquarters in Makurdi, the state capital.

The Commission Chairman said PDP won all 23 Local Government Chairmanship seats and 276 councillors in the Council elections.

According to Dr Loko, “the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP defeated the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA and the Labour Party, LP to win the 23 Chairmanship seats and the 276 Councillorship positions in the state.”

The BSIEC Chairman gave the names of the elected Chairmen as James Ogaba (Ado), Peter Joseph Ngbede (Agatu), Amali Victoria Auchi (Apa), Mozeh Judith Iember (Buruku), Mtom Isaac Terkuma (Gboko), Ubah Mike (Guma), Akua Agatha Sewuese (Gwer-East), Ayande Andrew (Gwer-West), Atera Alfred Avalumun (Katsina-Ala), Amile Christina (Konshisha), Orjiir Ornguga Gbande (Kwande), Tor Salome Shiden (Logo) and Torbunde Eunice (Makurdi).

Others include Akpa Anthony Ogbu (Obi), Umoru David Abah (Ogbadibo), Okwe Evelyn Ichiko (Oju), Akatu Stephen Adakole (Ohimini), Audu Amina (Okpokwu), Ejeh John Bako (Otukpo), Ade Nguhar Aondover (Tarka), Kartyo Tyoubur (Ukum), Chief. Mrs Gajir Nyiaii Veronica (Ushongo) and Tyonongo Alexander Terver (Vandeikya) local government.
Meanwhile, Governor Samuel Ortom has described the conduct of the Local Government elections in the State as peaceful, fair and credible.

The Local Government election, which witnessed the lowest turnout in the state’s history, produced nine female Chairmen, seven deputy Chairmen, and seventy female Councillors.
