Former Cape Town City coach Benni McCarthy has broken his silence on reports linking him to both Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.

There have been calls from a section of both the Soweto giants fans to appoint McCarthy as coach ahead of the start of next season.

Both Chiefs and Pirates have interim coaches after Stuart Baxter and Josef Zinnbauer were sacked earlier this season respectively.

And the two teams are in the market for permanent coaches who would possibly turn things around for the better.

McCarthy, on the other hand, has been without a coaching job since being sacked by AmaZulu in March, but he feels honoured that fans still see him as a brilliant coach.

Nonetheless, McCarthy said while he’s fascinated by being linked with both Chiefs and Pirates, getting the job is something else as neither side has approached him.

McaaCarthy added that he loves South Africa as it is his country of birth but his ultimate dream is to coach in Europe – the Premier League, La Liga, Portugal and the English Championship among other leagues.

BENNI MCCARTHY TO SNUB BOTH KAIZER CHIEFS AND ORLANDO PIRATES FOR EUROPE?

“Listen for me…I’m quite honored, my name gets linked because that shows that irrespective of me being released from Cape Town City, irrespective of me being released from AmaZulu, people within the football fraternity…they know a brilliant coach when they see one,” McCarthy told SABC Sport.

“If you get a job or not that’s another thing. Now the fact that I’m linked… my name is there, that is something positive for me to say that yes, I might have been fired but there are people in higher places that recognise the amazing job that you’ve done. They want to associate the club with you. So, that is positive,” he continued.

“Yeah, of course, South Africa is my home, it is my country, it will always have a priority for me.

“[However], like I said, my ambition is to eventually coach in Europe. I want to coach in the (English) Premier League. I want to coach in the Championship, I want to coach in La Liga, I want to coach in Spain, in Portugal. So, that’s my ambition. I aim high, if you don’t aim you are never going to be able to know the limits that you can go. If you even capable of going there or if you just settle for mediocre,” added McCarthy.
