Beer Party Surges to Third Place in Vienna State Election Poll
A Satirical Party Turned Serious Contender
The Austrian Beer Party, led by former rockstar Marco Pogo, has enjoyed a surge to third place in the latest poll for the next Vienna state election, overtaking one of the current governing parties.
The party, which was only founded in 2014, has gained popularity with its satirical policies, such as a proposed beer fountain in the city, the scrapping of mandatory closing times, and a 50% tax on Radlers beer and “other atrocities”.
