Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong says ‘No, I can’t say anything’ about transfer plans

There has been no word on a potential transfer, and he remains happy at Barcelona.

However, the Netherlands international looks to have opened the door to a move to the Premier League, embracing United’s interest despite his desire to stay at Barcelona.

De Jong, speaking after his country’s thrilling triumph over Wales on Tuesday night in Rotterdam, said of United’s approach: ‘You’re always flattered when teams show interest in you as a player.’

‘But, as you say, I am at the biggest club in the world at the moment and I feel fine there, so no news.’

De Jong has remained relatively silent on the speculation surrounding his future, and when asked if he would swap the beaches of Catalunya for the cold of Manchester, he burst out laughing, adding, ‘No, I can’t say anything.’

He has previously stated his intention to remain at Camp Nou, telling ESPN: ‘Barcelona is just my dream club, even from a young age.’

‘I’ve never regretted my choice despite the fact that I had hoped for more in terms of prizes than I’ve achieved so far. But I have never regretted my choice.’

That position may be changing, considering his recent comments regarding United’s interest, and his former Ajax manager, Ten Hag, is said to have launched a charm offensive to persuade De Jong to join him at Old Trafford.
