Bafana Bafana are gearing up for a thrilling encounter in Cape Town on Tuesday evening as they face South Sudan in their final 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier.
With a full house expected at Cape Town Stadium, all eyes will be on coach Hugo Broos and his squad, who are hoping for another successful outing in front of a passionate crowd.
Expectations for a Sold-Out Cape Town Stadium
The match, scheduled to kick off at 18:00, is officially sold out, with 40,000 fans anticipated to pack the stadium.
It promises to be an exciting atmosphere, especially as Bafana Bafana just secured their place for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco last week.
For Broos, a packed stadium would be the perfect way to cap off a memorable year for the team.
Focused on Finishing Top of the Group
Although Bafana Bafana have already qualified for the tournament, Broos is clear that they will treat this match with the same intensity as any other.
“We want to win the game. This is not a friendly match. It’s vital for us to remain at the top of the group,” he said.
The coach also stressed the importance of delivering another strong performance to impress the home crowd, following their successful matches in Bloemfontein and Gqeberha.
For Broos and his team, securing the top spot in Group K would be the perfect finish to the qualifiers.
South Sudan’s Challenges Ahead
On the other side, South Sudan is facing a tough challenge.
Coach Nicolas Dupuis explained that due to the high cost of travel, his team has arrived in South Africa with only 15 players, rather than the full squad.
Despite these setbacks, Dupuis remains optimistic about his team’s chances.
“South Africa is one of the top teams in Africa, and we know we are not at the same level. But we’re here to fight, and my players have good spirits.
We may not have any professional players, but they’re well-prepared,” he remarked.
A Closer Look at the Teams
In terms of rankings, Bafana Bafana are ranked 11th in Africa and 60th in the world, while South Sudan sits 47th in Africa and 172nd globally.
When these two teams met earlier in the qualifiers in September, Bafana Bafana emerged victorious with a 3-2 win in South Sudan.
Both South Africa and Uganda have already secured their spots for the 2025 AFCON, while South Sudan still has a tough road ahead.
What’s Next for Group K?
As Bafana Bafana take on South Sudan, Uganda will face Congo in their final qualifier in Brazzaville, also at 18:00 (SA time).
Both teams will be looking to end their campaigns on a high note, but for Broos and his squad, the focus remains on finishing strong at home and claiming top spot in the group.
