Bad dad? Kim Basinger says Alec Baldwin was emotionally unavailable

American actress, singer, and former fashion model Kim Basinger recently joined Jada Pinkett Smith for an episode of Red Table Talk in which she opened up about her divorce from actor Alec Baldwin.

Basinger and Baldwin were married for nine years before calling it quits in 2002. Although the pair co-parent their daughter Ireland, 26, the actress says that Baldwin was not available “mentally and emotionally” for their daughter’

During the interview which aired on Wednesday 27 April, Basinger described her split from her ex-husband as a “heavy-duty, very out loud when you’re in the public, divorce.”

The L.A. Confidential actress was joined by her daughter, Ireland Baldwin when she revealed that the Dr Death actor was not available “emotionally or mentally” for her anxiety issues.

At a very young age, Ireland was heavily affected as her parents were embroiled in one of the worst divorce and custody feuds in Hollywood history.

When Smith asked the Batman actress if she and Baldwin saw eye to eye where their daughter’s anxiety issues are concerned she said:

“Eye to eye? No. No, that was not – Alec’s a funny one. We’re all fine and we all get along, whatever. But he’s been — but he’s a challenge.”

“I mean, come on. We’ve had our challenges. And I don’t think Alec was emotionally or mentally available for that kind of talk. Alec, you know, operates in a very different way in his life.”

IRELAND OPENS UP

In 2007, when she was 11 years old, Ireland Baldwin became the subject of an acrimonious news scandal when a recording of a voicemail her father left for her was leaked. The 30 Rock actor was furious that his daughter didn’t pick up his phone, and proceeded to leave her a scathing voice message full of profanity and called her a “rude, thoughtless little pig.”

Speaking about her father on the show, Ireland said: “There are things I’d go to my father for. But I’ve never even tried to talk to him like that. I don’t think he’ll really be able to absorb any of it or get into it Anyone can understand… He really couldn’t empathize much with it.”

“It’s not his fault. And he’s gotten a lot better,” she added.

LATEST ON ‘RUST’ SHOOTING

The Red Table Talk interview was aired the same week new footage pertaining to the fatal Rust movie set shooting was released.

In October 2021, Baldwin shot and killed his colleague and cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. The actor was rehearsing a scene that involved a gun on the set of the Western movie Rust. The prop gun also wounded director Joel Souza.

The new information released by police in New Mexico made public all the files associated with the ongoing criminal investigation into the cinematographer’s death, including bodycam videos from detectives.
