According to promoter Frank Warren, Tyson Fury has accused Anthony Joshua of being “greedy” after discussions for Joshua to step aside to allow Fury to fight Oleksandr Usyk fell through. Joshua had requested an additional $5 million on top of the multi-million dollar offer already on the table, according to Warren.
Joshua is set to face Usyk in the spring after losing to the Ukrainian in September and losing both belts.
Fury had hoped to fight Usyk in a unification bout first, but talks with Usyk fell through.
“When Joshua asked for an extra $5 million, he said, ‘Enough is enough,’ and that was it,” Warren stated on talkSPORT Fight Night.
‘I’m not interested, he’s too greedy,’ he said, and that was that.
He’s a champion – Tyson’s not beholden to Anthony Joshua.
Him and Usyk wanted to get it on, both of them wanted to get it on. “But you had two people in the middle – one was suing the WBC and the other one was asking for more and more money.” Whyte is scheduled to bout Fury in early 2022.
The fight would be Fury’s first since he defeated Deontay Wilder in October to retain his WBC title.
