Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, received a warm and enthusiastic welcome from hundreds of royal fans during his visit to Singapore.
Among the well-wishers was an eight-month-old baby who shared a playful moment with the prince. His visit to the island nation was in connection with the third annual Earthshot Prize, where he aimed to announce the next recipients of £1 million awards for their environmental initiatives.
Prince William took the time to engage with fans and promote environmental innovation during this four-day trip.
A Heartwarming Encounter:
Upon arriving at Changi Airport, Prince William was greeted by cheering crowds holding signs, waving Union Jack flags, and displaying photos of his late mother, Princess Diana.
During his interaction with the well-wishers, a delightful moment occurred when eight-month-old Albane Costa took an interest in his hands and playfully bit his finger.
The future king took the gesture in stride, grinning at the playful baby and quipping, “I need my finger back!”
Engaging with Fans:
Prince William continued to interact with children and took selfies with those eagerly awaiting his arrival at the airport.
He was accompanied by Sim Ann, the country’s foreign affairs minister, as he walked through the crowd of well-wishers.
Kate’s Absence and Prince George’s Exams:
Notably, this year’s Earthshot Prize ceremony marked the first occasion when Prince William attended without his wife, Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge.
Kate remained at home to support their three children and help Prince George prepare for significant exams.
The ten-year-old prince, studying at Lambrook prep school in Berkshire, would likely be taking entrance exams for his future private school, which would include assessments in mathematics, English, and verbal reasoning.
The Jewel and Earthshot Arrival:
During his visit to Singapore, Prince William was introduced to the Jewel, a nature-themed entertainment and retail complex at Changi Airport.
The Jewel features the world’s largest indoor waterfall, known as the 40-meter rain vortex.
To commemorate Earthshot’s arrival in Singapore, the rain vortex was illuminated green. The Jewel, opened in 2019, is an innovative concept, blending nature with entertainment and shopping.
Prince William’s Excitement and Earthshot Week:
Prince William expressed his enthusiasm for returning to Singapore through a social media message. He lauded Singapore’s vision for environmental innovation and thanked the local community for hosting the Earthshot Prize event.
The prince would play a significant role in Earthshot Week, a series of events designed to connect businesses, investors, past winners, and current finalists, aiming to accelerate environmental solutions. Activities included dragon boating, meetings with local environmentalists, and participation in a United for Wildlife summit.
Earthshot Prize Ceremony:
The Earthshot Prize ceremony, scheduled for November 7, will be hosted by Emmy Award-winning actor and producer Sterling K Brown and actress Hannah Waddingham.
Bebe Rexha is set to perform, and director and producer Donnie Yen will announce one of the five winners. Notably, Earthshot Prize Council member Sir David Attenborough will make a video appearance during the broadcast.
The awards, focused on recognizing solutions for environmental restoration, will present five category winners with £1 million each to advance their environmental initiatives. This event aims to celebrate and support innovative ideas and efforts to protect the planet.
