A toddler has died with influenza in Queensland as the horror flu season wreaks havoc across Australia

The two-year-old youngster was reportedly admitted to a Gladstone hospital in central Queensland.

Later, he died of Influenza A.

The kid is the first child in Queensland to die from the virus this flu season, and the fourth child in Australia overall.

Flu infections have increased in Australia in recent weeks as temperatures have plummeted.

The Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne has reported a 500% surge in flu cases for children, from 16 in the entire month of March to 120 in the last two weeks.

In the hopes of raising immunization rates, many states have offered flu shots free for the month of June.

Covid had dominated the headlines for the past two years, with flu cases at ‘historically low levels.’ Influenza had become a relative afterthought.

The National Notifiable Diseases Surveillance System in Australia reported 313,033 laboratory-confirmed cases of influenza in 2019, the year before the pandemic.
