A terrifying scene unfolded in Midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning when NFL star Kris Boyd was shot outside a popular restaurant.
The Jets cornerback was hit in the abdomen, leaving onlookers and police scrambling to provide immediate medical care.
Footage from the scene shows Boyd lying in the street, surrounded by officers who administered treatment before placing him on a stretcher and wheeling him into an awaiting ambulance.
Eyewitness Accounts and Tensions
Cameraman Leeroy Johnson, who captured the chaos, claimed on social media that Boyd’s teammate Irvin Charles “repeatedly threatened me, got in my face, and grabbed my phone” while reporting from the scene.
Representatives for Charles have not yet commented on the claims.
Meanwhile, police quickly cordoned off the area near Sei Less, an Asian fusion restaurant on West 38th Street, a hotspot frequented by celebrities including Cardi B, 50 Cent, Kevin Hart, and Mark Wahlberg.
Boyd in Stable Condition
Boyd was rushed to Bellevue Hospital in critical but stable condition.
By later Sunday, friends and former teammates reassured the public about his status.
Ernest Quander, who knew Boyd from his University of Texas days, said, “He’s a soldier, through tough times… he’s fine. He’s fine.”
The Daily Mail also heard from one of Boyd’s friends, who confirmed: “He’s all good right now.
He’s in good condition, doing real good.”
How the Shooting Happened
Police say the incident followed a verbal dispute that escalated, ending in two gunshots fired at Boyd.
Two luxury cars reportedly fled the scene, one believed to carry the shooter.
Authorities are now searching for a suspect believed to have driven away in a blue BMW.
No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
Teammates Rally on Social Media
Boyd’s Jets teammates flooded social media with messages of support.
Defensive end Jermaine Johnson wrote: “Everybody please send prayers to my brother and teammate Kris Boyd and his family!!! Lord please hold your healing hand over Kris and guide him back to health and safety.”
Defensive tackle Harrison Phillips added: “Father God, we come to you right now, asking for your healing power over KB.
Kris is a fighter and we’re all here for him.”
Career and Background
Boyd, a Texas native, signed with the Jets in free agency this March on a $1.6 million contract.
His NFL career has earned him more than $8 million, including stints with the Houston Texans and Arizona Cardinals.
Drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in 2019, Boyd has faced ups and downs, including a season-ending shoulder injury that landed him on injured reserve in August.
He has not played this season but remains a key figure in the Jets’ defensive lineup as they prepared to face the New England Patriots on Thursday night.
Community and Ongoing Investigation
Sei Less, the restaurant where the shooting occurred, has not commented, and the Jets issued a brief statement: “We are aware of the situation involving Kris Boyd and will have no further comment at this time.”
Authorities continue to investigate, seeking leads on the gunman and the circumstances surrounding the attack.
Fans and the football community alike are keeping Boyd in their thoughts as he recovers from this shocking incident.
