As world leaders gather in Munich for a major security conference, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed doubts about whether the United States has a concrete peace plan for Ukraine.
His comments come just hours before his scheduled meeting with U.S. Vice President JD Vance.
Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump has revealed that he has begun direct negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin in an effort to end the three-year war in Ukraine.
Zelensky Unaware of U.S.-Russia Talks
Despite Trump’s announcement that discussions are taking place, Zelensky stated he is unaware of any planned talks between U.S. and Russian officials in Munich.
Speaking to reporters, the Ukrainian leader said he had not been informed of any scheduled meetings, even though Trump insisted Ukraine had been invited.
Adding to his diplomatic itinerary, Zelensky also confirmed plans to visit the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey following his engagements in Germany.
Kremlin Seeks Clarity on U.S. Position
In response to recent statements made by JD Vance, the Kremlin has called for further clarification regarding the U.S. stance on military action.
Russian news channel RBC reported that Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov found Vance’s remarks to be a new development, stating, “These are new elements of the position, we have not heard such formulations before.”
Peskov indicated that Moscow expects additional details from the U.S. regarding its approach.
Vance Hints at Military Pressure on Russia
During an interview with The Wall Street Journal, JD Vance suggested that the U.S. is prepared to use economic and military leverage against Russia if necessary.
As Trump moves forward with his diplomatic efforts, Vance emphasized that “everything is on the table” to secure Ukraine’s long-term independence.
He also hinted at the potential for a surprising peace deal, stating, “The president is not going to go into this with blinders on.
He’s going to say, ‘Everything is on the table, let’s make a deal.’
I think there is a deal that is going to come out of this that’s going to shock a lot of people.”
Trump Pushes Forward with Peace Negotiations
Trump remains determined to push ahead with his plan to broker peace between Ukraine and Russia.
In a recent statement, he described his discussions with both Zelensky and Putin as “great” and expressed optimism about ending the conflict.
With world leaders gathered in Munich, the spotlight remains on the high-stakes diplomatic efforts unfolding behind closed doors.
JD Vance and Senator Marco Rubio are also expected to meet with Zelensky later in the day, as the international community watches closely for any breakthroughs.
