WovenEarth Ventures Secures $155M Fund to Bet Big on Geothermal Energy, Batteries, Robotics and Critical Minerals

WovenEarth Ventures has completed the final close of its second investment vehicle, securing $155 million for WovenEarth Fund II as the Palo Alto-based firm expands its backing of early-stage cleantech businesses across the United States.

The new fund brings together a group of institutional and private investors, including The Pennsylvania State University, Glenmede, Mortenson Family Foundation and M.A. Mortenson Companies.

The vehicle has also attracted new partners from foundations, family offices and J.M. Huber Corporation.

Fund Targets Broad Exposure Across Cleantech

Rather than investing directly across a large number of startups, WovenEarth Fund II is designed to gain broad exposure by committing capital to a carefully selected group of US early-stage cleantech funds.

The strategy is expected to provide exposure to more than 250 companies through these underlying investments.

Around one-third of the fund’s investable capital has been reserved for direct co-investments alongside its fund partners, giving WovenEarth an opportunity to concentrate additional capital behind companies it views as particularly promising.

Seven Funds and 20 Direct Investments Already Completed

WovenEarth Fund II has already begun deploying capital.

The firm has committed to seven funds and completed 20 co-investments spanning a diverse range of climate and industrial technologies.

Its investment activity covers areas including geothermal energy, battery storage, critical minerals, robotics and orchestration software, reflecting the firm’s broad approach to technologies capable of reshaping energy systems, industrial operations and infrastructure resilience.

Leadership Team Drives Expanding Investment Platform

WovenEarth Ventures is led by managing partner Jane Woodward, alongside general partner Denise Miller and partners Ashley Grosh and Trina Van Pelt.

The firm’s wider leadership team includes Alicia Virtue, partner of operations; Mauricia Geissler, senior advisor for investments; and Natasha Skok, senior advisor for operations.

Their combined investment and operational expertise supports the firm’s strategy of identifying emerging technologies with significant commercial and environmental potential.

Assets Under Management Surpass $330 Million

The latest fundraising brings WovenEarth Ventures’ total assets under management to more than $330 million.

The firm is positioning its expanding platform around opportunities across energy, industry and resilience, sectors it believes offer substantial potential for long-term returns.

With its second fund now closed and capital already being deployed, WovenEarth is increasing its ability to support the next generation of companies working on technologies aimed at transforming critical systems and addressing major climate-related challenges.

A Broader Bet on the Cleantech Ecosystem

WovenEarth Fund II’s combination of fund investments and direct co-investments gives the firm multiple routes into the growing cleantech market.

By partnering with specialist investors while maintaining capital for direct opportunities, WovenEarth is seeking both diversification and the ability to increase exposure to standout companies.

The $155 million close represents a significant expansion of the firm’s investment capacity and underscores continued investor interest in early-stage technologies spanning energy, industrial innovation and resilience.
