Senator Kingibe Accuses FCT Minister Nyesom Wike of Neglecting Insecurity Warnings

Senator Ireti Kingibe, the representative for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has raised concerns about the perceived indifference of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike towards multiple messages and letters addressing the growing insecurity in Abuja.

Kingibe disclosed that her attempts to meet with Wike have been met with unresponsiveness, leading to a notable “disconnect” between them.

Communication Breakdown: Unanswered Messages and Letters

During an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Senator Kingibe revealed the lack of response from Minister Wike despite several attempts to engage with him.

The lawmaker mentioned sending WhatsApp messages and letters to address the security challenges in Abuja, but to no avail. The only interaction she had with Wike was during his defense of the FCT budget.

Senate to Summon Wike Over Abuja Insecurity

Senator Kingibe shared plans during the program, indicating that the Senate intends to summon Minister Wike and relevant security agencies to address the escalating insecurity in Abuja and its surroundings.

Expressing concerns about Wike’s responsiveness, she emphasized the importance of the Minister briefing the Senate on his strategies to tackle FCT’s security challenges.

Expectations for Minister’s Response to Senate Summon

While acknowledging potential challenges in getting a response from Wike, Senator Kingibe stressed the necessity of the FCT Minister outlining concrete plans for protecting Abuja residents.

The lawmaker emphasized the responsibility of Wike, the police commissioner, and the head of the Department of State Services (DSS) to present a comprehensive security plan during the anticipated Senate session.
