I. Introduction: Odumodublvck’s Bold Decision
Nigerian rapper, Tochukwu Ojogwu, widely known as Odumodublvck, has recently revealed a remarkable decision he made early in his career.
During an interview with CTRL Room, he disclosed that he had the opportunity to affiliate with Afrobeats superstar Davido but chose not to.
II. The Refusal of a Lucrative Offer
Odumodublvck explained that back in 2019, a suggestion from his team proposed that he should meet with Davido to elevate his fame.
However, he declined this opportunity. He stated that while his team believed that connecting with Davido could launch his career, he was more inclined towards UK grime stars whose musical genre aligned with his vision.
III. Gravitating Towards UK Grime Stars
He elaborated, “In 2019, someone [in my team] said we should go to Lagos and meet Davido.
But I was like, ‘What will Davido do for me? Even if Davido takes me to America and puts me on stage and I’m rapping my stuff, his fans won’t understand because they are afrobeats fans.’
But these guys: Teezee, BOJ, and Sholz, are the pipeline to the UK market.
And those are the closest guys I sound like internationally. So why don’t I follow that route to get to wherever I want to get to?’”
IV. The Quest for Recognition in the Hip-Hop Genre
Odumodublvck shed light on the challenges faced by hip-hop artists in Nigeria.
He expressed his frustration with the lack of recognition for the genre and its artists in the country.
He even shared an incident from his struggling artist days when he was denied seats at award events.
V. Support for Wizkid’s Controversial Statement
The rapper admitted that he concurred with Wizkid’s provocative statement that “hip-hop is dead.”
In his view, hip-hop in Nigeria had faced significant challenges, and Wizkid’s declaration struck a chord with him.
VI. Conclusion: Odumodublvck’s Unconventional Journey
Odumodublvck’s journey is marked by a determined commitment to his vision, even when offered the chance to align with a superstar like Davido.
His decision to embrace UK grime as his path to success showcases the bold and unconventional choices artists sometimes make to carve their unique identity in the music industry.Share on Facebook «||» Share on Twitter «||» Share on Reddit «||» Share on LinkedIn
