In a remarkable act of generosity, Sir Richard Branson, founder of Virgin, surprised more than 150 passengers on Virgin flight VA 1316 from Melbourne to Hobart.
During a FaceTime call from his private island Necker, he revealed an unexpected gift—each passenger would receive a free Virgin Voyages cruise, valued at up to $7,000.

As passengers embarked on their journey, they were greeted with an announcement that resonated through the cabin. Sir Richard Branson, calling in from his British Virgin Islands retreat, shared the exciting news.
The chosen flight was no ordinary one; it mirrored the upcoming route of Virgin’s cruise ship, Resilient Lady, set to embark on its Mermaiden Voyage.
A Milestone Celebration in the Skies
Marking the occasion, Branson expressed, ‘To celebrate this milestone, I’m pleased to gift each adult on-board a free Virgin Voyages cruise.’
The unexpected announcement triggered cheers and applause among the passengers, who were then presented with their complimentary cruise vouchers.

This act of benevolence extended beyond passengers; cabin crew, baggage handlers, and pilots on flight VA 1316 were also included in Branson’s mass giveaway.

The cruise line’s upcoming ship, Resilient Lady, scheduled to depart from Melbourne on December 11, boasts distinctive features.
