A 19-year-old woman has sustained life-changing injuries after being struck by an unmarked police car in a shocking incident that occurred yesterday evening.

The accident happened around 6:30 p.m. at a busy roundabout where the A4174 meets Badminton Road in Emersons Green, located just north of Bristol.

Details of the Incident

At the time of the collision, the police vehicle was using its blue lights and siren, signaling an emergency response.

Emergency services were quick to attend to the scene, with officers providing immediate first aid to the young woman before she was rushed to the hospital.

According to Avon and Somerset Police, her injuries are described as “potentially life-changing.”

Support for Officers and Investigation

Thankfully, the officers in the police vehicle were unharmed. Special support will be made available to them as they process the incident.

As part of the standard protocol following an accident involving police, the force has referred the matter to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), ensuring an independent investigation is carried out.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police confirmed the referral and expressed sympathy for the victim’s family.

“Her next of kin are aware and we will be providing them with support during this difficult time,” the spokesperson stated.
