Conducted by the University of North Florida’s Public Opinion Research Lab, the poll reveals that Trump has the support of approximately 60 percent of respondents, while only 21 percent indicated a preference for DeSantis.

These results bolster Trump’s position as the likely Republican candidate to challenge President Joe Biden in the next election.

Nikki Haley Secures Third Place

The poll further highlights the former United Nations ambassador Nikki Haley, who secures the third-place spot with approximately six percent of the vote.

Following her is former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie with two percent, and a biotech entrepreneur.

DeSantis Struggles to Gain Traction

Despite his historical popularity in the polls, Governor DeSantis appears to be facing challenges in his home state, which could impact his national campaign prospects.

Even in a hypothetical head-to-head matchup, Trump maintains a lead of 20 points over DeSantis. DeSantis has faced difficulties in revving up his campaign, with Trump securing a series of critical endorsements from Florida’s congressional delegation and making a strong showing at the party’s Freedom Summit.

Trump’s Ongoing Influence

In Florida, Trump’s influence remains substantial, as evidenced by his overwhelming support among Republican voters. Additionally, a recent poll revealed that Trump outperforms President Biden in five out of six swing states, indicating his continued sway within the party.

While 71 percent of respondents in the poll believe that Trump was merely exercising his right to contest the 2020 election, 16 percent view his actions as a threat to American democracy.
