Travis Kelce couldn’t hold back his emotions as he opened up about the Kansas City Chiefs’ devastating Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
In a preview clip for the latest episode of New Heights, the star tight end spoke candidly with his older brother, Jason Kelce, about the heartbreak of missing out on a historic Super Bowl three-peat.
His voice trembled as he reflected on the painful 40-22 defeat in New Orleans, admitting that he was struggling to process it all.
Regret and Reflection on the Big Game
Kelce, 35, didn’t address the swirling retirement rumors in the short teaser, but he did take a moment to apologize to Chiefs fans.
“I’m sorry for how it ended,” he said, his voice heavy with regret. “It just wasn’t our day. We couldn’t find a lick of momentum.
I’m kicking myself over some of the small decisions I made on the field.”
As a 12-year veteran in the league, Kelce put a lot of the responsibility on himself, admitting that he wished he had done more to keep his team focused.
“I wasn’t the best I could be in motivating my guys, keeping them calm and collected.
I’ve been in this situation before, I’ve seen it all, but I just couldn’t get us there this time.”
The Pain of Disappointment
As he spoke about the loss, Kelce’s emotions became even more evident, especially when mentioning the family and friends who had come to support him—including his girlfriend, Taylor Swift.
“I love my teammates, I love my coaches, and Chiefs Kingdom, I’m sorry for how it ended,” he said. “I have an amazing life, man.
I have the most incredible family in the world, and they were all there, cheering me on, hoping for the best on Sunday.”
Despite the painful outcome, Kelce remained grateful, though he couldn’t help but wish things had turned out differently.
“I wish I had made better decisions early on to help my guy Pat [Mahomes] out, to help my team find that momentum and confidence,” he admitted.
“But you know, I just have to tip my hat to the Eagles.”
A Record-Breaking Performance, But No Celebration
In an effort to lift his brother’s spirits, Jason pointed out that Travis had actually made history in the game.
With four receptions for 39 yards, Kelce set a new record for the most catches in Super Bowl history—35 total, surpassing the legendary Jerry Rice’s 33.
“You broke the record for most catches in Super Bowl history,” Jason reminded him.
“I know you probably don’t care much about that right now because of how the game went, but it just cements you as one of the best players to ever play in the NFL.”
Kelce’s response? A simple, “That’s the last thing I care about right now.”
What’s Next for Travis Kelce?
With the season now over, the big question remains: Will Travis Kelce return for another year, or was this his final game? The full episode of New Heights may provide more insight, but whatever he decides, the Chiefs will likely know by March 12—the start of NFL free agency.
For now, Kelce is left to process the heartbreak of a season that ended in disappointment.
Whether he suits up again or decides to hang up his cleats, his impact on the game is undeniable.
One thing is certain—his legacy in the NFL is already written in the record books.
