Temporary changes, brought in to help pubs, cafes and restaurants take advantage of the warm weather

Due to actions taken by the Department of Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, bars, cafes, and restaurants will be able to continue serving clients outside throughout the warm weather.

Temporary reforms made during COVID-19 have been extended, making it quicker, simpler, and less expensive for businesses to obtain a licence to serve food and drink on sidewalks and pedestrianised streets.

The extension will last until the spring, when the modifications will become permanent.

The public, café owners, and pub landlords all warmly embraced the adjustment when it was initially implemented to enable businesses continue running throughout the pandemic.

In the Levelling Up and Regeneration Bill, the government will make these modifications irreversible.

With today’s announcement, businesses will be able to continue functioning outside while waiting for the permanent amendments to take effect.

The temporary privileges were set to expire in September.

The modifications we made to the licencing standards will remain in place because we want to see thriving town centres all around the nation.

Our strategy to uplift communities and provide lively areas where people want to live and work includes making al fresco dining a staple on our main streets.
