On what should have been a day of celebration, tragedy struck at Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) in Ijagun.
A final year student, Ola Fabiyi, was violently attacked and killed by suspected cultists on his birthday while signing out of the institution.
According to witnesses, cultists stormed into an examination hall, forcefully dragging Ola Fabiyi out.
The scene was chaotic as they beat him and then shot him, right in front of his shocked classmates.
This horrifying event unfolded at TASUED, located in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.
Ola Fabiyi was not just any student; he was a 400-level senator in the school’s Student Union Government (SUG).
Reports indicate that after being dragged from the exam hall, he was assaulted, stabbed, and taken to a nearby bush where he was ultimately shot dead on Wednesday, July 3, 2024.
A Delayed Response
Security personnel arrived only after the attackers had fled.
Despite rushing Fabiyi to a hospital, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
This delay in response has raised concerns among students and the community about campus safety.
Celebrations Turned to Mourning
What should have been a joyous occasion for Fabiyi, celebrating his birthday and preparing to ‘sign out’ from the university, ended in a tragic loss.
As of now, neither the school authorities nor the police have released an official statement regarding this devastating incident.
