Stellenbosch FC Bolsters Squad with Chumani Butsaka Transfer from Cape Town Spurs as They Prepare for New Season

Stellenbosch FC, fresh off their Carling Knockout Cup victory, have made a significant move in the transfer market.

They’ve announced the signing of Chumani Butsaka from Cape Town Spurs, strengthening their squad for the upcoming season in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

A Leader Joins the Ranks

Chumani Butsaka, the Urban Warriors’ team captain, brings a wealth of experience to Stellenbosch.

With 116 appearances for Cape Town Spurs and a stint with Bafana Bafana at the 2022 COSAFA Cup, Butsaka is a proven midfielder.

His leadership and experience are expected to be pivotal as Stellenbosch aims to defend their Carling Cup title and make an impact across multiple competitions.

Club’s Ambitious Goals

Stellenbosch FC is gearing up for an exciting season.

The club’s statement emphasized their intention to not only defend their Carling Cup title but also to compete fiercely in the league, MTN8, and the CAF Confederation Cup.

The addition of Butsaka is seen as a strategic move to fill the void left by key players Deano David van Rooyen and Iqraam Rayners.

Warm Welcome and New Jersey

Stellenbosch FC CEO Rob Benadie expressed his enthusiasm about Butsaka’s arrival.

“We’re thrilled to have Chumani on board,” Benadie said.

“At just 22, he’s already amassed over 100 professional appearances and demonstrated leadership both on and off the field.

We commend Cape Town Spurs for his development and are excited about what he’ll bring to our club.”

Butsaka will be donning the No. 15 jersey this season and could make his debut in the Betway Premiership opener against Golden Arrows.

Rising Star Signs Professional Contract

In other news, Shaakir Ahmed, the captain of Stellenbosch’s DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) team, has signed his first professional contract with the club.

Ahmed, who joined the reserve team in 2022 and made his senior debut in March, is excited about his future with Stellenbosch.

“I’m honored to be part of the squad,” said the 21-year-old.

“I’m looking forward to a successful season with a great team.”

Continuing Success

Stellenbosch FC is currently riding a six-game winning streak across all competitions, including a victory against Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN8 semi-finals.

They are also striving for a spot in the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup.

With these new additions and a strong track record, the team is set for an ambitious and exciting season.
