Rebecca Joy Adams, a trailblazer in South African women’s football, has decided to extend her journey with Windhoek City FC in Namibia.
Known fondly as ‘Becca,’ she’s making waves as the first South African woman to play football in Brazil and has now found a new home in Namibia.
Commitment to Windhoek City FC
Having joined Windhoek City FC, formerly Ramblers Women FC, last May, Becca made a significant move after returning to South Africa from Brazil in April 2023.
Before signing with Windhoek City, she faced nearly a year without a club, making her decision all the more meaningful.
Last season, she played a crucial role in helping her team secure an eighth-place finish, racking up 24 points across 22 matches in the league.
A Fresh Opportunity
In a recent chat with FARPost, Becca shared her appreciation for the opportunity to continue with Windhoek City.
She’s determined to help elevate the team’s performance this season, with ambitions of qualifying for the COSAFA Women’s CAF Champions League qualifiers.
“I’ve signed a new three-year contract because I’m genuinely enjoying this challenge in Namibia,” she explained.
The positive environment and warm welcome from her teammates have made her transition smoother, prompting her to extend her stay without hesitation.
Adapting to a New Style
Reflecting on her first season, Becca acknowledged that it was quite different from her previous experiences but in a refreshing way.
She noted, “African leagues vary greatly from European ones in terms of space on and off the ball, and I had to learn and adapt to the league’s style of play.”
It took her a few months to adjust, but she eventually found her rhythm within the team.
From College Football to Professional Success
Before her Brazilian adventure, Becca showcased her talents in college football in the USA, playing for Northeast Texas Community College, where she caught the eye of Sao Bernado.
Her football journey also includes her time with Vasco da Gama in South Africa’s Sasol League Women’s League.
With her new contract in hand, the future looks bright for Becca as she aims to make a lasting impact in Namibian football.
