This Valentine’s Day, Siya Kolisi, the newly separated Springbok captain and Sharks player, has decided to celebrate bromance instead of romance.
Just under six months after his split from his wife Rachel Kolisi, Siya is putting his focus on friendship, rather than love.
However, things were much different this time last year, when the couple was still happily together.
Siya Kolisi Celebrates Friendship with Eben Etzebeth
Siya took to Instagram Stories to share a post from Rugby365, a rugby publication, which celebrated various “bromances” in honor of Valentine’s Day.
In the post, Siya and his best friend on the field, Eben Etzebeth, were highlighted for their heartwarming friendship.
The two are known for their playful banter and close-knit relationship, often joking with each other both on and off the pitch.
Siya and Eben not only share a strong bond as teammates for the Springboks, but they also play together for the Sharks.
In his Instagram story, Siya tagged Eben, who currently holds the record as the highest-capped Springbok player, and added a heart emoji to emphasize their bond.
A Long-Standing Friendship That Dates Back to Craven Week
Their friendship goes way beyond their time in the Springbok squad.
Siya recalled meeting Eben when they were both 18 during Craven Week, an annual rugby event in South Africa.
Siya even shared that Eben was one of the reasons he moved to Western Province, as they became fast friends, with Eben being one of the first Afrikaans-speaking people Siya could connect with.
Eben expressed his excitement when Siya returned to the Sharks after a stint at Paris Racing92, calling Siya a significant figure in South African rugby.
“He embodies what we want to be in terms of what he does for kids and people in need.
He is an unbelievable player and warrior,” said Eben.
Reflecting on Last Year’s Valentine’s Day
While Siya is now focused on celebrating friendships, it’s a different story when looking back at Valentine’s Day in 2024.
A year ago, Siya shared a heartfelt Instagram post showing a coffee date with Rachel, the mother of his two children.
The post, which was set to the romantic song Into Yam’ by Ringo Madlingozi, reflected the love they shared at that time.
Looking Ahead: Is There Hope for a Reconciliation?
As Siya moves forward and prioritizes his bromance with Eben Etzebeth this Valentine’s Day, fans may wonder if there’s any hope for a reconciliation with Rachel Kolisi.
While Siya has shifted his focus to personal growth and friendships, time will tell if the couple’s separation is permanent or if they will find their way back to each other.
