Urfan Sharif, the father of 10-year-old Sara Sharif, has publicly taken full responsibility for his daughter’s tragic death.
The 42-year-old taxi driver made this dramatic admission during his trial at the Old Bailey, as his wife, Beinash Batool, 30, sobbed in the dock.
Acknowledging His Actions
Sharif openly confessed to battering Sara with a cricket bat and a metal pole, causing multiple injuries to her young body.
He also admitted to having beaten her in the days leading up to her death, leaving fractures all over her body.
Previously, Sharif had attempted to blame his wife, but in a stark change of course, he told jurors, “I accept every single thing.”
The Grim Discovery
Sara’s body was found in her bunk bed at the family home in Woking, Surrey, on August 10 of the previous year.
After the incident, Sharif and Batool fled to Pakistan, where Sharif made a 999 call confessing, “I killed my daughter.”
Jurors heard that Sara had endured at least 71 injuries, including human bite marks and burns, alongside dozens of broken bones.
Shocking Admissions in Court
During cross-examination by Caroline Carberry, KC, representing Batool, Sharif admitted to inflicting the injuries on his daughter.
When asked about the use of the cricket bat and metal pole, Sharif confirmed, “Yes, ma’am,” acknowledging his role in causing the injuries.
Despite the heart-wrenching nature of the questions, Sharif did not hesitate in his admissions, stating, “I take full responsibility.”
Physical Evidence of Abuse
A post-mortem examination revealed Sara had suffered ten spinal fractures and numerous broken bones across her body, including her right collarbone, both shoulder blades, arms, hands, and neck.
The severity of the injuries highlighted the extent of the abuse she endured before her death.
Sharif had previously denied causing any harm, but his confession marked a significant shift in the trial’s direction.
The Trial Continues
Sharif’s emotional breakdown in the courtroom occurred after days of testimony, during which he had denied any involvement in Sara’s injuries.
On the seventh day of his testimony, Sharif openly admitted, “I did what I did,” and acknowledged his role in Sara’s death as detailed in his phone call and written note.
However, when asked whether he intended to kill her, Sharif denied it, shaking his head.
The trial continues, with Sharif, Batool, and Malik facing charges of murder and causing or allowing the death of a child.
The full extent of their involvement remains under scrutiny.
