Saqr Ghobash, Mexican Senator discuss parliamentary relations
DUBAI, 12th January, 2022 – Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC), today received Mexican Senator Ricardo Monreal at the Secretariat General of the FNC in Dubai.
During the meeting, both sides discussed their parliamentary cooperation, exchanging visits and enhancing their coordination on issues of mutual concern, most notably ways of reinforcing the bilateral ties between the UAE and Mexico.
They also highlighted the deep-rooted relations between the two countries, which are further strengthened thanks to the support of their leaderships.
At the start of the meeting, Ghobash welcomed Monreal and stressed the importance of improving the parliamentary and diplomatic cooperation between the two friendly countries.
The meeting also highlighted the importance of boosting their cooperation in political, economic and investment areas, as well as ways of exploring potential investment opportunities in their markets in priority sectors, most notably food security and renewable energy.
Ghobash stressed the importance of reinforcing the joint parliamentary cooperation and coordination between the two parliaments during regional and international parliamentary events aimed at containing the COVID-19 pandemic.
He then noted the successful handling of the pandemic by the UAE, especially the precautionary measures implemented by the country, adding that the UAE ranked second globally in terms of vaccination rate.
The sides stressed the importance of enhancing the parliamentary cooperation between the FNC and the Mexican Congress of the Union, through the signing of a related Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and the establishment of a parliamentary friendship committee.
Ghobash then highlighted the FNC’s appreciation for Mexico’s participation in Expo 2020 Dubai, adding that the Mexico Pavilion, themed “Roots of expression and identity, creation and creativity”, embodies the traditional culture and heritage of Mexico and highlights the key role of women in the Mexican community, as some 200 Mexican craftswomen designed the pavilion.
Monreal invited Ghobash to visit Mexico and the Mexican parliament, to consolidate the bilateral ties between the two friendly countries and boost their parliamentary cooperation.
