On the morning of September 10, Samkelo Mdolomba, better known as Samthing Soweto, took to X (formerly Twitter) to address the ongoing tension with DJ Maphorisa.
In a series of posts, he opened up about a false claim he made regarding Maphorisa’s involvement in his album.
Admission of Falsehood
Samthing Soweto confessed that he had misled his fans about DJ Maphorisa’s role in his album.
He stated, “I want to clear the air: DJ Maphorisa did not produce my album.
I paid him for mastering, as agreed upon at the time.
The truth is, he didn’t contribute to the production at all.”
He went on to explain why he felt the need to lie.
According to him, he thought that claiming Maphorisa’s involvement would boost his album’s sales, as he lacked confidence in its success without the reputed producer’s name attached.
The Real Contributors
Samthing Soweto clarified that the album was actually produced by @mas_musiq, Howard, and @KabzaDeSmall_.
He mentioned that these collaborators were responsible for a significant portion of the work, ranging from 40% to 60%, depending on one’s perspective.
Repercussions and Reactions
The revelation comes in the wake of DJ Maphorisa’s recent Instagram Live session, where he accused Samthing Soweto of sabotaging the release of the amapiano track “Amalanga Awafani.”
This track caused a stir on social media after it was discovered that Samthing Soweto, one of the vocalists, wasn’t credited.
