Russian Missiles Strike Dnipro, Injuring Civilians and Damaging Buildings

On Thursday, Russian missiles targeted an apartment complex in the eastern Ukrainian city of Dnipro, causing injuries to nine people, including two children.

Another building, belonging to Ukraine’s security services (SBU), was also hit during the attack.

President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the strikes, referring to them as “Russian missile terror.”

Emergency meetings were convened to address the situation following the missile attacks.

Missile Strikes in Dnipro:

At approximately 20:30 local time (17:30 GMT), the apartment complex and the SBU building in Dnipro were hit by Russian missiles.

The attack resulted in injuries to nine people, with a 14-year-old and a 17-year-old among the victims.

Pictures on social media showed extensive damage, with one building reduced to rubble and debris scattered across a large courtyard.

Recurring Target: SBU Building:

Dnipro Mayor Borys Filatov revealed that this was the third time the SBU security service building had been targeted.

Fortunately, both the residential building and the SBU premises were relatively empty at the time of the attack.

The residential building had recently been completed and was in the process of being put up for sale.

Civilian Casualties in the Conflict:

During the ongoing conflict, Russia has been known to strike apartment buildings, causing harm to civilians.

Despite consistent denials, these attacks raise concerns about intentional targeting of non-military targets.

The incident in Dnipro adds to the growing list of such incidents.

Ukrainian Forces’ Push in Eastern Ukraine:

Colonel General Oleksandr Syrskyi, the commander of Ukraine’s armed forces, reported that Ukrainian troops were making advances in parts of eastern Ukraine occupied by Russia.

Intense fighting, characterized by artillery and mortar fire, has been observed along the more than 600-mile front.

Ukraine’s recent deployment of Western weapons to counter the Kremlin’s forces has been notable.

Disputed Claims and Escalating Tensions:

The situation remains tense, with Western officials noting a major push by Ukraine in the southeast.

However, Russian President Vladimir Putin downplayed the effectiveness of Kyiv’s push, stating that it has failed.

Additionally, a separate incident was reported in the Russian city of Taganrog, where the Russian Defense Ministry claimed to have shot down a Ukrainian missile, injuring 20 people near an art museum.

Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council Secretary, Oleksiy Danilov, blamed the explosion on Russian air defense systems.

The missile strikes in Dnipro have resulted in civilian casualties and damage to buildings, further escalating tensions in the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

The situation remains highly volatile, with both sides making disputed claims about the developments on the ground.

The international community closely monitors the situation and seeks a resolution to prevent further violence and suffering for civilians caught in the crossfire.
