Russia and the United States plan another high-level meeting as diplomatic efforts continue in Istanbul

Tensions may be high, but Russia and the United States are still keeping communication lines open.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has confirmed that both nations are preparing for another expert-level meeting, following a similar session held in late February in Istanbul.

Progress Through Dialogue

Lavrov shared that while in-person meetings are crucial, discussions are also happening through phone calls and video conferences.

“We are seeing some progress,” he stated, hinting at the ongoing diplomatic efforts behind the scenes.

Concrete Actions Needed

Despite these talks, Lavrov stressed that discussions alone won’t bring results.

He highlighted the importance of making actual decisions rather than just exchanging diplomatic pleasantries, especially when it comes to reviving the Black Sea Initiative.

At present, the US is reportedly reviewing a list of proposals from Moscow, which could determine the next steps in negotiations.

The Bigger Picture

The Kremlin remains committed to keeping discussions open with Washington.

However, according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, resolving the conflict in Ukraine will require significant time and effort.

The road ahead may be long, but ongoing diplomatic exchanges signal a willingness—however cautious—to find common ground.
