Mzamo Mthembu, a member of the Hollywoodbets Athletics Club, passed away during the race in KwaZulu-Natal.

Mthembu experienced issues throughout the course of the marathon and fell near Pinetown. Hollywoodbets Athletics Club said that he was brought to Life Westville Hospital, where he died.
“My deepest condolences to the entire Purple family, the Mthembu family, and all of their friends. His soul may rest in peace.
In the meantime, the race, which returned for the first time since 2019 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, was marked by a number of exciting occurrences.
Among them was a runner waving a banner as he approached the finish line at Moses Mabhida Stadium, proposing to Prudence.
The Tuks Athletics Club’s Joseph Kagiso Ndlovu displayed a banner that read, “Prudence, will you marry me? Run 90k for you”.

Some Twitter users commented that running such a distance for a loved one is insanity. Others hoped Prudence would accept the public proposal of marriage.

Russian Alexandra Morozova won the women’s ‘down’ run between Pietermaritzburg and Durban on Sunday.
A last-minute request to the Pietermaritzburg High Court granted her permission to compete in the event.
The Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) first opposed her participation, but then reversed its stance and stipulated that she would have to start at the rear of the pack.
However, Judge Rob Mossop ruled that she could start with the elite runners and ordered the CMA to pay the application’s fees.
Tete Dijana, a South African who works as a security guard at North West University, won the men’s race.
