While most 19-year-olds are just trying to figure out their next steps, Alastair Stewart — son of rock legend Sir Rod Stewart — is already making bold moves to chase his passion.
And it turns out, dad’s been keeping a close eye on his budding talent.
At a recent red carpet event, Rod joked that if Hollywood ever made a movie about his whirlwind life, Alastair would be the perfect fit to play the younger version of him.
“There’s a remarkable similarity,” the 80-year-old singer said with a proud grin.
Leaving Fashion School Behind to Chase a Dream
That cheeky casting suggestion might not be too far off.
Alastair recently made a major decision: he’s dropped out of fashion school to pursue a career in the film industry.
Last autumn, he enrolled in a three-year fashion degree at the JCA London Fashion Academy, focusing on design, branding, and entrepreneurship.
But things changed. Speaking at the world premiere of Ocean with Sir David Attenborough, Alastair explained, “I was attending that fashion college, but I’ve left now.
I’m in a bit of a transitional period. I’m trying to get into the film industry, and I want to follow my passion.”
Passion Behind the Lens, Not in Front of It
Alastair’s interest in film isn’t about fame or being the next heartthrob actor.
He’s got his eyes firmly set on the creative process behind the scenes.
“I want to be behind the camera, that’s my real passion,” he shared.
“I’ve made a few short plays, I write a lot of scripts, and I write a lot of screenplays.”
It’s a far cry from the fashion runway — but it’s where his heart seems to lie.
He attended the London premiere alongside his mother, Penny Lancaster, 54, who has been a strong supporter of her son’s evolving journey.
Inside Rod Stewart’s Complicated Family Tree
While Alastair is stepping into a new chapter, life at the Stewart household has always been a story of blending families and balancing relationships.
Rod Stewart has eight children with five different women — making family life dynamic, to say the least.
Alastair and his 14-year-old brother Aidan are his sons with Penny, Rod’s third wife.
From his second marriage to model Rachel Hunter, Rod shares Liam, 30, and Renee, 32.
His first marriage to actress Alana Stewart brought Kimberly, 45, and Sean, 44, into the world.
He also has a daughter, Ruby, 37, with former girlfriend Kelly Emberg, and his eldest child, Sarah Streeter, 61, was adopted and raised by another family.
Penny Opens Up About Blended Family Life
Penny recently spoke candidly about the challenges of raising a blended family on the Loose Women podcast with Coleen Nolan.
When she entered Rod’s life, his children Liam and Renee were still very young — five and seven, respectively.
Reflecting on that period, Penny said, “I could only imagine how difficult it was for those children to have their parents divorced, let alone to have another woman around.”
She continued, “I guess I just wanted them to see that Dad was happy.
And if I was the person making Dad happy — while he still communicated with their mum and made big decisions together — then it was about just tiptoeing around the situation.”
Family First, No Matter How Big
Despite the complexities, Penny has managed to build strong bonds with all of Rod’s children.
The family often holidays together and seems to maintain a warm dynamic, even with such a wide age range and multiple family branches.
“There’s five mothers, so it’s a bit blended,” Penny admitted with a laugh — but added that she always tried to be mindful of the children’s perspective.
A New Chapter for Alastair — With Support from Both Parents
As Alastair now moves away from fashion and toward filmmaking, he has the full support of his mother and, clearly, his father’s admiration too.
Whether or not a Rod Stewart biopic ever comes to life, it’s clear that Alastair is carving out a path uniquely his own — and it just might be one worth watching on the big screen someday.
