A robot assistant at a technology store in Saratov, Russia, has become the centre of an online storm after footage appeared to show the machine responding aggressively when a customer pushed it.
The incident, recorded inside Volga Electronics, shows the customer approaching the robot as he enters the store.
What initially appears to be a playful interaction quickly takes an unexpected turn when the machine seemingly reacts with a series of punches and kicks.
Friendly Gesture Turns Into Sudden Confrontation
The footage begins with the man extending his arm towards the robot, apparently attempting to shake its hand.
When the machine does not respond to the gesture, the customer reaches out and pushes it away.
Within seconds, the robot appears to move into a fighting stance before launching a rapid sequence of strikes in the man’s direction.
The machine can be seen repeatedly swinging its arms and legs as the customer moves away, creating the appearance of an intense confrontation inside the store.
Staff Members Step In
Two employees eventually intervene as the robot continues moving towards the customer.
The staff members appear to grab and restrain the machine in an effort to prevent the situation from escalating further.
The footage does not establish whether the robot’s behaviour was an unintended malfunction, a programmed response, or part of a demonstration staged for promotional purposes.

The Saratov footage is not the first recent video to attract attention because of a robot performing martial arts-style movements.
Just weeks earlier, a humanoid robot taking part in a martial arts demonstration at Urumqi Botanical Garden in Xinjiang, China, appeared to accidentally kick a young boy.
The robot, which was wearing an afro-style wig, was performing for spectators when it moved into a fighting stance and carried out a spinning roundhouse kick.
The kick struck the child in the stomach, causing him to double over before falling backwards into the crowd.
The robot itself stumbled backwards immediately afterwards but appeared to regain its balance and continue the demonstration.
The incident was also widely shared online and prompted renewed criticism and concern about robots carrying out physical demonstrations close to people.
Robots Perform High-Risk Moves on Major Stage
China has also showcased increasingly sophisticated robotic performances in large public events.
Earlier this year, dozens of robots appeared at the CCTV Spring Festival gala, one of the country’s most-watched television programmes.
The machines performed choreographed routines that included kicks, flips and movements involving objects such as nunchucks, swords and poles.
The performance took place only metres from human child performers, highlighting the increasingly prominent role of humanoid robots in entertainment and public demonstrations.

The latest footage from Saratov has added another dramatic chapter to the debate surrounding robots that can physically interact with people.
