Richards Bay FC’s Head Coach Brandon Truter Reveals Ambitious Trophy Goals Set by Chairman Jomo Biyela for the Current Season in KwaZulu-Natal

Setting sights high, Richards Bay FC’s head coach Brandon Truter recently shared an exciting update about the club’s aspirations for the current season.

Under the guidance of chairman Jomo Biyela, the team is aiming for a significant turnaround following a challenging last season that saw them narrowly avoiding relegation through the PSL promotional/relegation playoffs.

A Fresh Start

In a strategic move to improve their performance, the Natal Rich Boyz made key coaching changes prior to this season.

They bid farewell to Vusumuzi Vilakazi and welcomed Truter to lead the squad.

So far, their efforts have yielded mixed results with two wins, two draws, and two losses in six matches across all competitions.

Despite this uneven start, the team is determined to establish stability in the league.

Trophy Aspirations

Truter emphasized Biyela’s strong ambition for the club, noting, “The chairman made it clear for us. If there’s any possibility of a cup, he would like a trophy this season.”

This clarity of vision fuels the team’s drive as they prepare to compete in the Carling Knockout Cup quarterfinal against Cape Town City FC.

The match is scheduled for Saturday, November 2, at King Zwelithini Stadium, where the players hope to secure their place in the semifinals.

Seizing the Opportunity

Reflecting on the upcoming challenge, Truter sees the Carling Cup as a vital opportunity to make history by clinching their first trophy in the top-flight league.

He stated, “The Carling Cup and other cups in the league represent that opportunity. The Carling Cup is the first one of the season. Once you’re in a cup, you need to be in it to win it.”

With an air of optimism, Truter acknowledged the unique pressure of being KZN’s sole representative in this competition, viewing it as a chance for growth for his young team.

He remarked, “We’re a young team. Lots of youngsters in us, mixed with some mature players. But all this pressure and all these challenges, we welcome it.”

As Richards Bay FC prepares for their crucial match, the players and coaching staff are focused on their ambitious goals, aiming to turn challenges into opportunities for success.
