In a small Florida town, residents are voicing their frustration over a suspected drug house that seems to be eluding law enforcement’s control.
The situation in Silver Springs has reached a boiling point, with locals feeling increasingly helpless and overwhelmed by the constant disruptions.
Persistent Problems in the Neighborhood
Residents have been contacting News 6 to share their distress over the constant activity emanating from a particular home.
Beth Campbell, a local resident, described the chaos, saying, “We see people coming and going at all hours—day and night.
Vehicles constantly drive through, and we see people stumbling around, clearly under the influence.”
Safety Concerns and Rising Crime
Campbell’s concerns are echoed by others in the community.
Carol Lane, another resident, has taken extreme measures for her safety, installing bars on her windows due to fear of the escalating situation.
“It’s so unsettling,” Lane admitted.
“You’re trying to sleep, and then there’s banging on your house.
You wonder if someone’s in trouble or if you should help.”
Timothy Santrock highlighted that the issues extend beyond drug activity.
“Theft has become a serious problem,” he said.
“I’ve had hitches and a generator stolen. It feels like nothing is safe around here.”
Impact on Families
The situation has also impacted families in the area.
Campbell expressed her worry for her grandchildren, saying, “We often have our kids and grandkids over, but with all the activity, we’re afraid to let them play outside.”
Law Enforcement Response
News 6 reached out to Sheriff Billy Woods for a statement, but he declined an interview.
However, his spokesman confirmed that the sheriff’s office is aware of the problems and is taking steps to address them.
On the same day, a search warrant was executed at the suspected drug house, leading to the discovery of cocaine, methamphetamine, marijuana, and used needles.
Arrests and Community Relief
Three individuals were arrested as a result of the raid, including David Biaza, who is accused of manufacturing and selling crack cocaine from the property.
Donald Burns and Lance Shackelford were also taken into custody on felony drug charges.
Following the arrests and increased law enforcement presence, residents have noticed a decrease in activity and are hopeful for a return to normalcy.
“We’re cautiously optimistic,” Campbell said.
“We’re glad Channel 6 stepped in to help us out, and we hope things stay quiet from now on.”
