Rank has introduced a new range of community-focused financial products as the Nigerian fintech seeks to modernise traditional savings practices and improve access to affordable funding.
Formerly known as Moni, the company is launching three digital solutions designed to help individuals, employees, and small businesses raise capital by leveraging trusted community finance models that have existed across Africa for generations.
The rollout begins in Nigeria, where the company believes technology can transform informal savings systems into more reliable financial tools without relying on conventional interest-based lending.
Traditional Savings Model Meets Digital Innovation
The newly launched products include Money Circles, Tribe, and Rank Perks, each serving a different segment of community finance.
While Money Circles digitises rotating savings schemes, Tribe provides financial management tools for established groups, and Rank Perks brings savings and credit programmes into the workplace through payroll integration.
By combining digital infrastructure with longstanding communal financial practices, Rank hopes to make these systems easier to manage while improving transparency and trust among participants.
Company Targets Businesses Excluded From Formal Lending
The expansion comes as access to traditional financing remains a major challenge for Nigerian entrepreneurs.
According to Rank, only 4% of the country’s micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) are able to secure loans from formal banking institutions.
The fintech believes community-powered financial products can help bridge this gap by giving entrepreneurs and workers access to capital through collaborative savings arrangements rather than conventional bank credit.
Recent Acquisitions Strengthen Growth Plans
The launch follows a period of strategic expansion for the company.
Eight months ago, Rank acquired group savings platform AjoMoney alongside Zazzau Microfinance Bank, which has since been rebranded as Rank Microfinance Bank.
Those acquisitions provided the fintech with a regulated banking licence and expanded its capabilities beyond lending into savings, digital payments, and wealth management.
The company also disclosed that more than $100 million has been distributed to users across its financial communities over the past year.
CEO Says Community Finance Remains Africa’s Financial Foundation
Chief Executive Officer and co-founder Femi Iromini said communal financial systems have historically enabled Africans to build wealth and acquire assets, adding that Rank’s goal is to preserve those traditions while enhancing them with modern technology.
He explained that the platform addresses long-standing trust challenges by combining digital security with collective financial habits, creating what he described as an institutional-grade framework capable of supporting long-term wealth creation.
Money Circles Digitises Rotating Savings Schemes
Money Circles recreates popular savings arrangements such as ajo, esusu, and other rotating savings and credit associations (ROSCAs) within a digital environment.
Participants contribute fixed amounts on a monthly basis and receive a lump-sum payout when their turn arrives.
Rank said members pay a fixed service fee depending on the timing of their payout, while the company guarantees scheduled payments even if another participant defaults.
Tribe Supports Families, Cooperatives and Social Groups
Rank’s Tribe platform focuses on helping existing communities organise and monitor shared finances from a single location.
Families, friends, colleagues, cooperatives, and similar groups can manage rotating contributions, oversee collective financial goals, and track every contribution and payout in real time, providing greater visibility into group finances.
Payroll Product Extends Financial Access to Employees
The company’s third offering, Rank Perks, is designed for employers seeking to provide additional financial benefits to their workforce.
Through the platform, employees gain access to salary-backed credit while also participating in workplace savings circles.
Loan repayments and savings contributions are deducted automatically from monthly salaries, simplifying the process for both employers and staff.
Expanded Banking Features Broaden Customer Services
Alongside the new community finance products, Rank has added several banking features to its platform, including everyday transaction accounts, personalised digital payment handles, and both flexible and fixed savings plans.
These additions reflect the company’s broader ambition to develop a comprehensive digital financial ecosystem that supports users beyond borrowing.
Community-Centred Approach Differentiates Rank
Rank enters a competitive fintech market occupied by digital savings and investment platforms such as PiggyVest, Cowrywise, and other wealth management providers.
Rather than focusing primarily on individual saving and investing, the company is building its strategy around digitising the communal financial structures that have long supported African households and businesses.
Iromini said blending cultural financial traditions with modern digital security will enable young Africans to strengthen their purchasing power, build long-term equity, and better withstand inflation through collective financial participation.
