Rachel Kolisi reflects on emotional Valentine’s Day as she faces heartbreak in Cape Town

Valentine’s Day is often seen as a celebration of love and togetherness, but for Rachel Kolisi, it was a day of deep reflection and heartbreak.

The estranged wife of Springboks captain Siya Kolisi took to Instagram on Saturday, February 15, to share her emotional experience and the personal struggles she faced on the day of love.

‘Broke My Heart All Over Again’

In her heartfelt post, Rachel revealed that she made a brave yet painful decision on Valentine’s Day, which reopened old wounds.

She spoke candidly about the difficulties of parenting while dealing with personal turmoil.

“We do love every day anyway.

But this Valentine’s Day, I made a brave decision, and it broke my heart all over again,” she wrote.

“Parenting when the world feels like it’s crumbling around you is a different kind of challenge.

And one I hope I’ll never have to experience at this level again.”

The mother of two expressed gratitude to those who stood by her during this difficult period. “Never been more grateful for the very few who showed up to support and lean in this week, specially.

One day at a time felt too big this week, so I just did one hour at a time, and it kinda helped – I made it to Saturday!” she added.

The Pain Behind the Heartbreak

Rachel and Siya Kolisi’s love story has been well-known in South Africa.

The couple met in 2012 and tied the knot in 2016. Over the years, they built a family together, raising their two children, Nicholas (10) and Keziah (7). However, in October 2024, they shocked their fans when they announced their separation in a joint statement.

At the time, the pair emphasized that their decision was made out of love and mutual respect.

They reassured their supporters that, despite their split, they remain dedicated to co-parenting their children with the love and care they’ve always known.

“This decision comes from a place of love, respect, and understanding that this is the best path forward for both of us,” their statement read.

“While our relationship as a couple is changing, we remain great friends and committed partners in raising our children with the same love and care they’ve always known.

We will also continue working together on the Foundation that means so much to us.”

Navigating Life After Separation

Siya Kolisi is currently based in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, where he plays for the Sharks, while Rachel and their children continue to reside in Cape Town, Western Cape.

Despite the physical distance, both have expressed their commitment to maintaining a supportive environment for their kids.

Rachel’s recent post reflects the emotional toll of moving forward after a long-term relationship ends.

While Valentine’s Day was especially difficult, she continues to take things one step at a time, focusing on her role as a mother and finding strength in the support of those closest to her.
