During an environment-themed statement in front of Buckingham Palace for the Jubilee concert tonight, Prince William cited Louis Armstrong’s song “What a Wonderful World” as he paid respect to the Queen’s efforts to save the earth.
During a part of the Platinum Party dedicated to the environment and including Sir David Attenborough, the Duke of Cambridge hailed his grandmother for her ‘hope’ in the future of the globe.
Prince William, who was greeted on stage with chants of “we love you,” also expressed his admiration for his father, Prince Charles, and grandfather, Prince Phillip, for their efforts to protect the environment.
He reiterated the Queen’s remarks from the Cop26 UN Climate Change Summit, in which she emphasized that working together in a “shared cause” always brought optimism.
Later, Prince Charles came to the stage to pay a poignant, personal homage to the Queen, addressing her as ‘Mummy’ and thanking her for 70 years of service to the nation in good times and bad.
In his speech, Prince William praised the efforts of “visionary environmentalists,” including Sir David Attenborough, a broadcaster and naturalist.
‘It’s my earnest hope that my grandmother’s words are as true in 70 years’ time as they are now, that as nations we come together in common cause, because then there is always place for hope,’ Prince William said on stage to thousands gathering in The Mall.
‘Tonight has been full of such optimism and joy – and there is hope. Together, if we harness the very best of humankind, and restore our planet, we will protect it for our children, for our grandchildren and for future generations to come.’
A pre-recorded message from Sir David was played before the duke spoke, with breathtaking pictures of the globe and the Hans Zimmer orchestra performing a rendition of the Planet Earth II Suite while Royal Ballet dancers performed.
During the address, images of nature and endangered animals were projected onto Buckingham Palace, while the people held green-colored lights.
