Porsche and Red Bull have stopped discussions on Porsche’s entry into Formula One, but the German sports car manufacturer remains interested in joining the racing series, it was announced on Friday.

“The two firms have reached a consensus that these discussions will no longer continue,” Porsche AG said in a statement.

Volkswagen’s former CEO Herbert Diess announced in May that Porsche and Audi would enter Formula One, a series long dominated by Mercedes-Benz.

According to media sources, long-running negotiations between Porsche and Red Bull had stalled because Porsche sought more influence than Red Bull was willing to grant.

Last Friday, Red Bull team principal Christian Horner ruled out a Porsche takeover and stated that any agreement would have to be on the terms of the Formula One team.

“The foundation (of conversations) was always a relationship on an equal footing, which would encompass the team in addition to a motoring cooperation,” Porsche said in a statement.

“With the rule modifications, the racing series remains an intriguing opportunity for Porsche, and we will continue to evaluate it,” the statement continued.

Formula One’s governing body approved engine regulations for 2026 in August, including a significant increase in electrical power, the use of 100% sustainable fuels, and the removal of the current Motor Generator Unit Heat (MGU-H) element, reportedly a requirement for Volkswagen Group brands to enter the sport.

Audi said in August that it would manufacture an engine in Germany and enter Formula One in 2026 with an existing team, most likely Sauber, and the sport has been awaiting Porsche’s arrival.
