The police in the Eastern Cape have opened an inquest docket after a five-year-old boy tragically drowned in Gqeberha on Saturday, 14 May.

YOUNG BOY FOUND DEAD BY SISTERA

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Captain Gerda Swart said the boy was allegedly playing with a ball at his house in Bluewater Bay, Gqeberha between 16:40 and 17:24.

“At about 17:24, his 11-year-old sister noticed him lying at the bottom of the pool and dived in to save him. He was already dead,” said Swart.

The police believe the child may have entered the pool to retrieve his ball before drowning. The investigation continues.
