Pitso Mosimane Addresses Speculation About Orlando Pirates Coaching Role Amid Jose Riveiro’s Departure

With Jose Riveiro set to leave his position as coach of Orlando Pirates at the end of this season, the hunt for his replacement has begun in earnest.

Naturally, Pitso Mosimane’s name has been mentioned frequently as a potential candidate to take over the helm.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns coach has a track record of success that’s hard to ignore, making him an obvious choice in the eyes of many.

However, as of now, Mosimane has made it clear that no one from Pirates has reached out to him regarding the position.

Pitso Mosimane Keeps His Options Open

Speaking during a recent appearance at his Pitso Mosimane Soccer Schools (PMSS) project, Mosimane addressed the swirling rumors about his future.

He stated that although he has seen the links between himself and Pirates, no official discussions have taken place.

“I’ve seen it (links to Pirates), but nobody has spoken to me.

We will see,” he said, adding that he wouldn’t rule out the possibility of a return to coaching in South Africa’s Premier Soccer League.

When asked if he would consider a move back to the PSL, Mosimane didn’t hesitate to answer.

“Why not? It must be for the right project. It must be at the right time,” he replied, leaving the door slightly ajar for future opportunities.

Pitso Mosimane’s Market Value and the Pirates Position

Given Mosimane’s recent experience in top-tier international football, particularly with Al Ahly in Egypt, his market value is likely to exceed what Pirates might be able to offer.

This could make him less of a frontrunner for the job, as the club may not be able to meet his financial demands.

Despite this, his vast coaching experience and success with Sundowns make him an intriguing option for the Buccaneers, but it’s clear that Mosimane is waiting for the right fit—both in terms of timing and project alignment.

The Case for Rulani Mokwena

As speculation swirls, many people believe that another former Sundowns coach, Rulani Mokwena, may actually be the leading candidate for the Pirates job.

Mokwena has proven his capabilities as a head coach and could be a more realistic choice in terms of both budget and team-building philosophy.

The question now remains: who will ultimately take the reins at Orlando Pirates? Fans are eager to know, and the answer could have a significant impact on the club’s future in the upcoming season.
